A View From McAfee Knob

9 09 2009

Last week my family and I made the challenging hike to McAfee Knob and it was well worth it. McAfee Knob is the most photographed point along the Appalachian Trail – and for good reason. While there I shot this short panoramic video to hopefully inspire those who have been meaning to make the hike but have yet to find the motivation. As I was uploading my video to You Tube I came across a video by a “section hiker”. A thru-hiker is a person hiking the entire 2,178 mile Appalachian Trail from start (Georgia) to finish (Maine) in one attempt. A section-hiker is a person who is hiking the entire AT but doing so in several smaller segments; typically they hike several hundred miles each year with the goal of eventually hiking all sections of the AT.
