3 08 2009

Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine just launched its “Best of the Outdoors Ballot!” This is your chance to get the Roanoke Region of Virginia the recognition it deserves!

Vote for your favorite swimming hole, best bike trail, favorite section of the AT, and more – VOTE NOW!

I recognize that the Roanoke Region can’t win every category but here is a breakdown of how I voted in a few key categories that I feel are truly worthy – but don’t let me sway you!

Seven Wonders of the Blue Ridge: Blue Ridge Parkway, the AT, New & James Rivers
Favorite Section of the AT:
Dragon’s Tooth to McAfee Knob
Favorite Hiking Trail:
Chestnut Ridge
Favorite Swimming Hole: Roaring Run
Favorite Campground: Douthat State Park
Favorite Mountain Summit: Mill Mountain
Best Outdoor Festival: Floyd Fest
Best Mountain Bike Trail: Songbird/Gauntlet/Buck at Carvins Cove
Most Important Outdoor Issue: River Access
Favorite Waterfall: Cascades
Favorite Race: ID3 (www.id3races.com)
Best Urban Park: Carvins Cove (not sure if it qualifies as an “urban” park but it is the 2nd largest municipal park in the U.S.)
