Pete:
Welcome to Roanoke!
I did notice that one of the things missing form your list of outdoor recreation highlights is the Roanoke River. It is not in the greatest condition but it is getting much better and becoming a great place to fish. Check out this site from Roanoke Valley Trout Unlimited:

Have a great day.

Thanks Roger! The fact that we have such a variety of outdoor options makes it easy to overlook something and hard to select only a few highlights. You are right though, the Roanoke River is a great asset. How many places allow you to easily go fly fishing on your lunch break! – Pete
Thanks for putting this site up! I have lived in Roanoke many years and knew there were many outdoor activities available but have only recently been aware of how to actually locate them. Having directions to hiking spots and length of the trails is very helpful. Keep up the good work!!
